The Nagoya City Higashiyama Park Tennis Center will host tennis and soft tennis at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games.
Located inside the Higashiyama Park in Nagoya, the centre has been part of the city’s sporting landscape since its opening in 1993. It has undergone renovation work ahead of the Asian Games, upgrading its facilities for international competition.
A centre built for big matches
The tennis centre has the infrastructure to host both elite competitions and large crowds. Its main attraction is a 3,000-seater centre court, which will provide the setting for the biggest matches.
The complex also has four indoor courts with seating arrangements for around 500 spectators and 15 outdoor courts. Player changing rooms, shower facilities, club houses, a public lounge and parking facilities add to the venue’s overall infrastructure.
Tennis and soft tennis in focus
Aichi-Nagoya 2026 will see the venue host both tennis and soft tennis.
Soft tennis is particularly popular in Asian countries and uses a softer rubber ball compared to conventional tennis. The combination of the two sports will bring different styles of racket competition to the same venue.
The centre has also been used for wheelchair tennis, making it a venue with experience in hosting different forms of the sport.
Inside Higashiyama Park
The tennis centre is located in Higashiyama Park, one of Nagoya’s major green spaces. The area is home to the famous Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens and the Higashiyama Sky Tower, giving visitors plenty to explore beyond the sporting action.
Nagoya itself has a deep historical connection with Japan’s samurai era and is associated with Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu. Today, the city is also a major industrial and manufacturing centre.
A regular home for tennis
The centre has been used for numerous tennis competitions since 1993. Its calendar includes junior, veteran and national-level tournaments, while its public courts also support recreational tennis.
Among the competitions held at the venue are the Japan Open Junior Tennis Championships, the MUFG Junior Tennis Tournament and the All Japan Veteran Tennis Championship.
Ready for Aichi-Nagoya 2026
More than three decades after opening, the Nagoya City Higashiyama Park Tennis Center is entering another major chapter. The venue is ready to welcome Asia’s best tennis and soft tennis players at Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
How to reach the venue
Nagoya City Higashiyama Park Tennis Center can easily be reached by train and bus. Public transport is recommended during the Asian Games due to road and parking restrictions around the venue.
By train: Take the Higashiyama Subway Line from Nagoya Station to Hoshigaoka Station.
By bus: From Hoshigaoka Bus Terminal, take Hoshigaoka 13 bus towards Irinaka and get off at the Higashiyama Koen Tennis Center stop.
