Bhubaneswar, 18th Nov. BJD president and former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik emphasized that politics without morality is mere hypocrisy. Speaking at a function commemorating the 91st birth anniversary of former Odisha minister Harischandra Baxipatra on Sunday, Patnaik stated that true politics is a “commitment to work for an ideal and extend unconditional service to the people.”
Patnaik highlighted that politics should be seen as both a source of power and a medium to benefit the public. “But politics without morality is hypocrisy. Only a dedicated politician with high morality can bring about transformative changes in people’s lives,” he said.
The BJD leader expressed that many people view politics as a platform for personal gain, but he firmly believes that the love and satisfaction of the people are more valuable than power, status, or position. “In fact, people’s satisfaction is the greatest asset of a leader,” he added.
Noted political activist Yogendra Yadav also spoke at the event, reflecting on the “sudden death of modern Indian political thought,” a topic he elaborated on in his address. Patnaik thanked Yadav for sharing his insightful thoughts with the gathering.
In his tribute to Harischandra Baxipatra, Patnaik described him as a pivotal figure in the political history of Odisha and India. A close associate of legendary leader Biju Patnaik, Baxipatra had served in various important portfolios in his cabinet. Patnaik remembered him as a man of socialist principles who was a true friend to the poor and the marginalized. “The absence of such idealistic leaders in politics today is strongly felt,” Patnaik concluded.
