Prayagraj, 19th Nov. The Allahabad High Court has granted bail to Javed Alam, a Muslim man accused of kidnapping and raping a Hindu girl. Justice Sameer Jain, in his ruling, noted that the girl’s statement indicated she was over 17 years old when the FIR was lodged, and she went with Alam willingly, later marrying him.
The case arose after a dispute during a train journey, where a Bajrang Dal member filed a police complaint against Alam, accusing him of kidnapping the girl, a class 10 student, and forcing her to change her religion. The FIR included charges under sections 363 (kidnapping), 366 (kidnapping to compel marriage), 506 (criminal intimidation), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Alam was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021.
During the court proceedings, the girl’s counsel expressed no objection to Alam’s release on bail, leading to the court’s decision to grant bail to the accused.
