New Delhi, 26th Nov. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday called upon Parliament members to follow the tradition of constructive and dignified debates set by the Constituent Assembly while discussing the Constitution of India, which was adopted 75 years ago.
Addressing an event marking the start of year-long celebrations for the 75th anniversary of the Constitution’s adoption, Birla highlighted the meticulous efforts of the Constituent Assembly, which worked for nearly three years to weave together India’s geographic and social diversity into the country’s foundational document.
“These traditions of constructive and dignified debates should be implemented by our respective Houses as well,” said Birla, emphasizing the need for a continued tradition of respectful and thoughtful discourse in Parliament.
The event, attended by President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Birla, Rajya Sabha Leader of the House J.P. Nadda, and Opposition Leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, saw the release of several commemorative items. A special commemorative coin and stamp were unveiled, alongside books titled Making of the Constitution of India: A Glimpse and Making of the Constitution of India & its Glorious Journey.
Additionally, a booklet dedicated to the art of the Constitution was also released. President Murmu also unveiled the translated versions of the Constitution in Sanskrit and Maithili, further highlighting the document’s broad cultural and linguistic significance.
