Kolkata, 26th Nov. The parents of the trainee doctor who was brutally murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital met with West Bengal’s Leader of Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, at the state assembly on Tuesday. Overcome with emotion, the parents shared their grief with Adhikari, who assured them of his full support in their pursuit of justice for their daughter.
The victim’s mother, speaking to the press, expressed her anguish, saying, “What offense did my daughter even commit that she was killed in such a cruel way? Even today, I don’t know what happened to my daughter that night.” She further appealed for continued support in their quest for justice, stating, “Everyone is standing by our side, we want you to be by our side in the coming days.”
The father of the deceased doctor also voiced his frustration, demanding public support for their cause. “The trial will proceed in the court and that’s fine. But the injustices that we have endured must be put on trial before common people,” he said, indicating that if the CBI’s second chargesheet fails to bring justice, they will take to the streets.
Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari pledged his unwavering support for the victim’s family and emphasized the importance of both judicial and public efforts in seeking justice. “Judicial fight will continue. Judiciary is a pillar (of our democracy). But the theme of our constitution is ‘for the people, by the people, of the people’,” Adhikari stated, underlining his commitment to taking the fight to the “court of public opinion.”
On the same day, Adhikari also led a march of BJP MLAs in the assembly, demanding the immediate release of Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in Bangladesh. Das, who leads the Pundarik Dham in Chittagong and serves as a spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jot, was arrested by Dhaka police on charges of sedition on Monday. Adhikari urged Hindus in Bangladesh to unite against “radical forces” and seek justice for Das.
