New Delhi, 27th Nov. Pollution levels in the national capital saw a marginal improvement on Wednesday morning, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) nearing the ‘poor’ category. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s AQI stood at 301 at 9 am, a drop from 343 recorded at the same time on Tuesday.
Despite the improvement, a thick layer of haze continued to cover the city. The AQI scale classifies air quality as ‘good’ between 0 and 50, ‘satisfactory’ between 51 and 100, ‘moderate’ between 101 and 200, ‘poor’ between 201 and 300, ‘very poor’ between 301 and 400, and ‘severe’ between 401 and 500.
Out of 38 monitoring stations, none reported air quality in the ‘severe’ category on Wednesday. This marks a notable change from Tuesday, when 17 out of 39 monitoring stations recorded ‘severe’ levels.
Air pollution classified as ‘severe’ (AQI above 400) is known to pose significant health risks, particularly for individuals with pre-existing health conditions.
In terms of weather, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported a minimum temperature of 10.4°C, 0.2 degrees above normal for this time of year. The forecast for the day includes a mainly clear sky with a maximum temperature expected to reach around 27°C.
Authorities continue to monitor air quality levels and have urged residents to take necessary precautions as pollution levels remain a concern.
