Wayanad, 27th Nov. Congress leaders from Wayanad handed over the election certificate from the parliamentary by-election to party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday. The event took place in the presence of Priyanka’s brother and former MP, Rahul Gandhi.
Sources indicate that Priyanka Gandhi is expected to take the oath as a member of the Lok Sabha on Thursday, marking her formal entry into Parliament. The Congress leaders from Wayanad also conveyed their best wishes to Priyanka as she embarks on her new role.
On the occasion, Rahul Gandhi was seen sharing sweets with his sister in a gesture of celebration. Priyanka Gandhi expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the people of Wayanad for their overwhelming support during the by-election, thanking them for placing their trust in her leadership. She also acknowledged the efforts of the local Congress leaders in ensuring her victory.
During the meeting, Priyanka Gandhi engaged in discussions with the leaders about the future course of action for Wayanad, focusing on addressing local concerns and working together for the development and welfare of the constituency.
Priyanka Gandhi’s victory in the Wayanad bypoll was a historic one, with the 52-year-old Congress leader securing a resounding win by over four lakh votes. This margin surpassed that of her brother Rahul Gandhi’s victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Priyanka defeated Sathyan Mokeri of the CPI(M)-led LDF, amassing over six lakh votes to succeed Rahul Gandhi, who had represented Wayanad twice since the 2019 general elections.
