Goa to Set Up POSH Committees in All Govt Offices

GG News Bureau
Panaji, 29th Nov. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced on Friday that all government offices in the state will establish committees within the next one-and-a-half months to address complaints of sexual harassment under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (POSH) Act.

Speaking at an orientation program on POSH in Margao, CM Sawant emphasized that the members of these committees should be adequately trained to understand their roles. He also expressed concern over the presence of male members in some existing committees, questioning the appropriateness of male staff being involved in sexual harassment cases.

The Chief Minister instructed the Chief Secretary to issue a circular to ensure that all government offices, as well as aided schools, set up internal committees to handle sexual harassment complaints. Private offices with more than ten employees are also required to form similar committees, which is a crucial step in creating a safer work environment for women.

Sawant further explained that these committees should consist of members linked to official designations rather than specific individuals, ensuring continuity even if members are transferred. He suggested that a female official of the same rank can take over if a member is reassigned, thus preventing the dissolution of committees.
