New Delhi, 1st December, Khalistani extremists attempted to disrupt a consular camp organized by Indian diplomats inside the Lakshmi Narayan Temple in the Greater Toronto Area, despite a recent court injunction barring such demonstrations outside places of worship. The camp, set up by the Indian Consulate in Scarborough, was aimed at assisting elderly Indian nationals with pension-related services, according to a Canadian journalist.
Pro-Khalistan elements gathered outside the temple, shouting slogans against the Indian government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reportedly in connection with the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a terrorist shot dead outside a Surrey gurudwara in British Columbia last year.
Canadian journalist Daniel Bordman, who covered the incident, accused the Khalistani protesters of attempting to destabilize India-Canada relations. He described how the camp inside the temple was attended by elderly people from various communities, including Sikhs, Muslims, Christians, and Hindus, who were all peacefully receiving services. Bordman wrote, “The Khalistanis are trying to stop the flow of money into Canada and destabilize our geopolitical relationships because they are assets of Pakistan and China.”
The protesters, allegedly affiliated with Sikhs for Justice, a group advocating for an independent Sikh state in India, also called for the closure of the Indian consulate in Canada. The incident highlights the ongoing tensions between India and Canada, exacerbated by the accusations made by the Canadian government regarding Nijjar’s killing and the activities of Canada-based Khalistani organizations.
