Bhopal, 2nd Nov. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has issued a directive to address irregularities in the distribution and sale of fertilizers across Madhya Pradesh. Chairing a review meeting upon his return from Germany at the Samatva Bhavan in his official residence, Dr. Yadav emphasized the need for stringent measures against those found guilty of malpractice in fertilizer distribution.
Focus on Increasing Distribution Centers
Highlighting the adequacy of fertilizer availability in the state, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of swiftly expanding distribution centers where needed. Madhya Pradesh has increased its sales outlets from 470 last year to 761 this year. These centers, managed by the Marketing Federation, Marketing Societies, and MP Agro, are functioning smoothly, ensuring farmers receive the required supplies.
Tackling Malpractices and Ensuring Quality Control
The meeting revealed that 71 FIRs have been filed this season for illegal storage, transportation, and black marketing of fertilizers. Quality control efforts led to over 10,000 fertilizer samples being analyzed, resulting in the suspension of 45 licenses. Dr. Yadav urged officials to address complaints received through social media and public channels promptly.
Adequate Fertilizer Supply for Farmers
The state currently holds 32.44 lakh metric tons of fertilizers, with 21.34 lakh metric tons already distributed and 11.10 lakh metric tons in reserve. Plans are in place to ensure an additional 20 lakh metric tons in December, supported by the central government. Dr. Yadav expressed his intention to request continued assistance from Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister J.P. Nadda and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for seamless fertilizer supply.
Action Against Defaulters and Innovative Initiatives
Over the past week, 11 FIRs have been filed for offenses such as illegal storage and sale, counterfeit fertilizers, and non-compliance with POS machine sales requirements. Districts like Vidisha, Jabalpur, Chhatarpur, and others have seen strict actions against offenders. Meanwhile, innovative measures include additional counters in Tikamgarh for smoother distribution and workshops for farmers in Chhindwara on Rabi crop preparations.
Key Directives from the Chief Minister
- Expedite fertilizer transportation by road if rail racks are delayed.
- Expand the number of distribution centers, even by renting premises if necessary.
- Promptly resolve complaints received via social media and public platforms.
- Encourage crop rotation, natural farming, and Kodon-Kutki production.
- Ensure timely payments for procured produce.
- Promote contract farming and summer maize cultivation.
- Demonstrate modern agricultural techniques and equipment to farmers.
The review meeting was attended by Cooperation Minister Vishwas Sarang, Chief Secretary Anurag Jain, and senior officials from the Chief Minister’s Office.
This proactive stance by the Madhya Pradesh government aims to safeguard farmers’ interests while ensuring efficient fertilizer distribution across the state.
