Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Rajya Sabha MP Tiruchi Siva on Monday filed an adjournment motion notice to discuss the ongoing violence in Manipur. The motion was moved under Rule 267 (Notice of Motion for Suspension of Rules) with the aim of urging the government to address the crisis. Tiruchi emphasized that the violence in Manipur has claimed over 250 lives, displaced many, and disrupted countless livelihoods, making it crucial to find a lasting solution. In his letter to the Secretary General of Rajya Sabha, Tiruchi stated, “It is imperative to find an immediate and lasting solution to this crisis.”

In addition, Congress MP B. Manickam Tagore moved a separate adjournment motion notice, seeking a discussion on the allegations against billionaire Gautam Adani. The allegations, put forward by the U.S. Justice Department, involve accusations of bribery and corruption. Tagore highlighted the “public interest” in the matter and demanded an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and other relevant agencies. He called for public disclosure of the investigation, stressing the need for transparency and accountability in corporate practices affecting Indian citizens and entities.

Meanwhile, DMK MP TR Baalu filed an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha regarding the severe crop damage and property destruction caused by Cyclone Fengal. The cyclone, which brought unprecedented rainfall and heavy flooding, affected several districts in Tamil Nadu, including Villupuram, Cudalore, and Chengalpattu, as well as parts of Puducherry.

The motions come after both Houses of Parliament faced disruptions in the previous week, where opposition members demanded a discussion on the indictment of Adani. The winter session of Parliament, which began on November 25, is scheduled to continue until December 20.
