Panaji, 11th Dec. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday demanded a judicial inquiry into the cash-for-jobs scam in Goa, expressing doubts over the effectiveness of an Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation. AAP Goa president Amit Palekar alleged that BJP functionaries were involved, and a probe by the ED, which he claimed to be “an agency of the BJP,” would yield no results.

AAP leaders also targeted Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and his family over the scam, accusing them of benefiting from the alleged fraud. Responding to these accusations, Goa BJP spokesperson Giriraj Pai Vernekar denied any involvement of the CM or his family, calling the allegations baseless and politically motivated.

Vernekar highlighted that the first FIR in the scam was registered at the CM’s behest and that the Goa police had already arrested over 25 individuals in connection with the fraud. The scam involved duping government job aspirants into paying lakhs of rupees for employment opportunities that never materialized.

CM Sawant assured an unbiased investigation into the scam and urged victims to come forward. So far, 30 FIRs have been registered. “The accused have been apprehended because of the CM’s repeated appeals to the people to report such frauds,” Vernekar said.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh also joined the criticism, prompting Vernekar to challenge opposition parties to present evidence linking CM Sawant or his family to the scam. He warned that continued baseless allegations could force the BJP to “explore all options” for legal recourse.

The BJP has maintained that the investigation will expose individual fraudsters and vindicate senior party leaders. The opposition, however, continues to press for an independent judicial probe.
