Indore, 17th Dec. Job aspirants staged a protest in Indore on Monday, alleging irregularities in the Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board’s recruitment examination. The controversy arose after a candidate reportedly scored 101.66 marks out of a total of 100, attributed to the use of the “normalisation” process in the Van and Jail Recruitment Test 2023.
Protesters, comprising unemployed youth, gathered outside the district collector’s office and submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. They demanded a fair inquiry into the alleged discrepancies in the results, which were announced on December 13.
The normalisation process, used to address variations in the difficulty of exam papers conducted across multiple sessions, has sparked outrage among candidates. The process can result in scores exceeding the maximum limit or falling below zero, as clarified by the selection board.
Gopal Prajapat, a leader of the protest, stated, “This is the first time in the state’s history that a candidate has scored more than the total marks due to the normalisation process. We demand transparency and a thorough inquiry into the recruitment process for posts of forest guard, field guard (executive), and jail guard (executive).”
Prajapat further alleged fraud in the examination and warned of a larger agitation if the authorities fail to address the concerns.
The Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board defended its use of normalisation, asserting that it aligns with established rules to ensure fairness in exams held across multiple sessions. However, the explanation has failed to pacify the agitated job aspirants, who are now demanding a review of the process and results.
