The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has taken a significant step towards enhancing service delivery and ensuring ease of living for its members by simplifying the process for transferring PF accounts when changing jobs. As per the revised procedure, the need to route online transfer claims through the previous or current employer has been removed in most cases.
With this reform, EPFO estimates that over 94% of total transfer claims, amounting to approximately 1.20 crore out of 1.30 crore claims annually, will be processed directly without requiring employer intervention. This is expected to drastically reduce processing time and streamline the overall experience for members.
From April 1, 2024, to date, EPFO has received approximately 1.30 crore transfer claims online. Among these, around 45 lakh claims, accounting for 34.5% of the total, have already been auto-generated, bypassing employer approval in certain scenarios where a member transitions directly between establishments.
The new process is expected to address longstanding grievances, as transfer-related issues currently account for 17% of all EPFO grievances. The direct processing of claims by EPFO will significantly reduce rejections and improve turnaround time, providing greater convenience to members.
Additionally, large employers, who previously faced a heavy workload of approving transfer claims, will benefit from reduced administrative burdens, enhancing ease of doing business.
These reforms reflect the government’s commitment to simplifying processes, leveraging technology, and introducing member-friendly policies. By prioritizing efficiency and trust, EPFO aims to deliver seamless and secure services, ensuring a better experience for its members.
