Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, 9th Feb. A fierce gunfight between security forces and Naxalites in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Sunday morning resulted in the killing of 12 Naxalites, while two security personnel were martyred, officials confirmed. The encounter took place in the forest area of Indravati National Park, a known Naxalite stronghold.

Joint Operation Against Naxalites
Security forces had launched an anti-Naxalite operation based on intelligence inputs about Naxalite movements in the area. A joint team comprising personnel from different security units, including the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Special Task Force (STF), was deployed in the operation.
A senior police official confirmed that all 12 Naxalite bodies have been recovered from the encounter site, while efforts are underway to retrieve the bodies of the fallen security personnel.
“12 Naxalites were killed in the encounter in the National Park area of Bijapur district. Two jawans lost their lives, while two others were injured in the gunfight. A search operation is ongoing in the area,” said an official.

Chhattisgarh, particularly the Bastar division, has been a hotbed of Naxalite insurgency, with frequent clashes between Maoist rebels and security forces. Sunday’s encounter marks another significant success for security agencies, who have intensified anti-Naxalite operations in recent months.
Authorities have confirmed that operations will continue in the region to eliminate remaining Naxalite threats and ensure the safety of civilians in the affected areas.
