The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, graced the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra in Ranchi, Jharkhand, today.
Addressing the gathering, President Murmu highlighted the transformative impact of technology in modern times, stating that advancements in information technology have revolutionized daily life. She emphasized that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) will play a crucial role in shaping the future, and the Government of India has been proactive in integrating AI into higher education institutions to equip students for the evolving landscape.

The President also underscored the need to ensure that technological progress benefits all sections of society, particularly marginalized groups. She urged young innovators and entrepreneurs to balance cutting-edge advancements with traditional knowledge systems, stressing that many local challenges can be addressed through simple, time-tested solutions.
Reflecting on BIT Mesra’s remarkable contributions to education and research, President Murmu lauded its pioneering role in engineering and technology. She noted that the institute established India’s first Department of Space Engineering and Rocketry in 1964 and set up one of the earliest Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Parks (STEP) in 1975 to promote engineering-driven entrepreneurship.
Expressing confidence in BIT Mesra’s continued excellence, she congratulated the institute on its 75-year journey and encouraged students and faculty to further India’s scientific and technological aspirations.
The Platinum Jubilee celebrations at BIT Mesra mark a significant milestone in its legacy of academic and research excellence, reaffirming its commitment to innovation and nation-building.
