Patna- Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expanded his council of ministers on Wednesday, inducting seven new faces from the BJP, taking the total to 36—the maximum permissible limit for the 243-member state assembly.
Governor Arif Mohammad Khan administered the oath to the new ministers ahead of the upcoming state elections. The cabinet expansion follows a meeting of the BJP’s core group chaired by the party’s national president.
The new ministers include Jibesh Kumar, who previously served in the cabinet until August 2022, when Kumar parted ways with the NDA. Others inducted are Sanjay Saraogi, a five-term MLA from Darbhanga; Sunil Kumar from Nalanda, a former JD(U) leader who joined BJP in 2015; and Raju Kumar Singh, an ex-JD(U) leader and MLA from Muzaffarpur.
Additionally, Krishna Kumar Mantu from Saran, Vijay Kumar Mandal from Araria, and Moti Lal Prasad from Sitamarhi were sworn in. The selection appears to balance caste equations, with representation from upper castes and regions where the NDA has performed well.
Notably, state BJP president Dilip Jaiswal resigned from his ministerial post, adhering to the party’s “one person, one post” policy.
