Hampi- The Karnataka Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the gangrape of two women, including a 27-year-old Israeli tourist, near Hampi. The arrested individuals, identified as Sai Mallu and Chethan Sai from Gangavathi, were taken into custody on Saturday, while one more accused remains at large.
Superintendent of Police, Koppal, Dr. Ram Arasiddi, confirmed the arrests and stated, “We have to arrest one more person. They have also given his name, and we will catch him soon as well.”
The horrific incident took place on March 6, when a group of five individuals—two women and three men—was attacked by a gang near the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hampi. The assault reportedly occurred in a public space, though police have not yet disclosed the exact location.
After swift police action, Sai Mallu and Chethan Sai were arrested after a series of operations. Authorities confirmed that the suspects have been charged with sexual assault, though details about their motives or any possible connection to the victims have not been released.
Meanwhile, the search is underway for the third accused, who police believe played a crucial role in the crime. Dr. Arasiddi assured the public that the suspect’s name has been identified and that he will be apprehended soon. The investigation is ongoing, with officials gathering evidence and statements from witnesses to strengthen the case.
