Kohima, 21st Oct. Nagaland’s Director General of Police (DGP) Rupin Sharma attended the Police Commemoration Day function on Monday, emphasizing the importance of renewing the pledge to serve the community. During the event, he and other senior officials paid floral tributes to honor the sacrifice of 214 policemen across India, including four from Nagaland, who lost their lives in the line of duty.

“On this day, we remember the sacrifice of all policemen who laid down their lives in the line of duty during the preceding year,” Sharma stated during the Police Commemoration parade. He highlighted how these sacrifices have fostered an environment conducive to peaceful economic development and individual progress throughout the country.

The DGP specifically acknowledged the four brave personnel from Nagaland: Constable (Driver) Khetopu Awomi from the 14th NAP (IR) Battalion, Kiphire; Hav A Nikiye Tsuipu from the 10th NAP (IR) Battalion, Zhadima; and Constables (GD) Wetelhou Losou and Akangluba from the 10th NAP (IR) Battalion, who made the ultimate sacrifice while performing their duties.

Sharma commended the efforts of all Nagaland police personnel over the past year, noting their successful maintenance of law and order and the smooth conduct of two peaceful elections, despite extreme conditions.

“Today is not merely a day of mourning but a celebration of the selfless sacrifice of policemen and women who have become immortal through their deeds,” he remarked.

He concluded by urging every police officer to renew their commitment to serving the public, safeguarding the integrity of the nation, and being prepared to make sacrifices when necessary. The occasion included the reading of the names of the 214 fallen personnel and a commemoration parade featuring 150 officers of various ranks from the district executive force in Kohima.
