Ranchi, Jharkhand, 14th Nov: After the successful conclusion of the first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly elections, BJP MP Anurag Thakur expressed his appreciation to voters, commending them for supporting the party’s call for change. Thakur thanked Jharkhand residents for turning out in large numbers, stating, “I want to thank all voters who voted for a change in Jharkhand yesterday. They voted to free themselves from misgovernance and bring in the BJP government. The work is done on November 13, and the rest will be completed on November 20. The lotus will bloom in Jharkhand—we built Jharkhand, and we will develop Jharkhand.”The first phase of polling, held on November 13 across 43 assembly constituencies, saw a significant voter turnout of 64.86%, surpassing the 63.9% turnout recorded in the 2019 assembly elections, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI). The ECI confirmed that polling concluded peacefully, with no reports of violence or disturbances.

The elections were marked by a celebratory atmosphere, with enthusiastic participation from various communities, including large tribal populations in Left Wing Extremism-affected areas. Voters from all demographics, including the elderly, women, youth, persons with disabilities, and tribal groups, participated in the polls across the 15 districts. Notably, the Budha Pahad area in Garhwa district, once a hotbed for extremist activities, witnessed peaceful polling with long queues at the Hesatu Polling Station, underscoring the deep-rooted presence of democratic values in even the most remote regions of the state.

The first phase’s robust turnout reflects voters’ engagement with the democratic process and their aspirations for change. Thakur emphasized the BJP’s commitment to advancing Jharkhand’s development, saying, “We built Jharkhand, and we will continue to ensure its growth.”

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is aiming to unseat the JMM-led coalition government, currently helmed by Chief Minister Hemant Soren. With prominent candidates in the fray—including CM Hemant Soren, former CM Champai Soren, JMM leader Mahua Maji, and Congress leader Ajoy Kumar—the election promises to be closely contested.

The next phase of voting, covering the remaining 38 seats, is scheduled for November 20, with results expected on November 23.
