Kurukshetra, 6th Dec. Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, addressing the 9th International Gita Conference on Thursday, emphasized that the Bhagavad Gita is a cornerstone of India’s cultural legacy and a universal scripture meant for the welfare of humanity. Speaking on the theme “Balanced Nature-Pure Environment Based on Srimad Bhagavad Gita,” Khan underscored the role of the Gita in promoting environmental conservation.
The conference, held at Kurukshetra University as part of the International Gita Mahotsav, saw prominent dignitaries, including Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, Uttarakhand Governor Gurmit Singh, and Tanzanian Minister Tabia Maulid Mwita, participate in discussions around the Gita’s teachings and their global relevance, especially concerning environmental protection.
Governor Khan stressed that the Gita’s message of unity and integrity reflects the spirit of India, highlighting its connection to environmental sustainability. “The Gita is crucial for spreading the message of environmental protection worldwide,” Khan said, adding that the text embodies the essence of the ‘Upanishads’ and Vedic teachings.
Governor Dattatreya, in his address, called the Gita a sacred scripture that offers solutions to humanity’s challenges, including those related to environmental protection. He said, “The Gita’s teachings transcend religious boundaries, offering practical solutions to the world.”
Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (retd), Governor of Uttarakhand, emphasized that the Gita is a guide for life, helping individuals navigate through crises and make righteous decisions. He remarked that Kurukshetra, the land of the Gita, instills a sense of completeness.
Swami Gyananand Maharaj, a Gita scholar, echoed similar sentiments, noting that the Gita contains a global message for environmental conservation, advocating for balance in all aspects of life.
Tanzania’s Minister for Information, Youth, Culture, and Sports, Tabia Maulid Mwita, highlighted the longstanding cultural and educational ties between India and Tanzania. She expressed hope that such events would further strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in various fields, including education, agriculture, and trade.
The International Gita Mahotsav, running from November 28 to December 15, has brought together global leaders, scholars, and devotees to reflect on the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, with major events scheduled from December 5 to December 11.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini inaugurated the Mahotsav on the banks of the Brahmasarovar, with the festival focusing on cultural exchanges, environmental consciousness, and the spiritual significance of the Gita.
In a related development, Governor Dattatreya also inaugurated the Haryana Pavilion at Purushottampura Bagh, showcasing Haryanvi culture and heritage. The pavilion, a joint effort by Kurukshetra University and the Kurukshetra Development Board (KDB), was praised for bringing Haryana’s folk art and traditions to an international audience.
The 18-day International Gita Mahotsav continues to draw attention to the global importance of the Gita’s teachings, especially in the context of today’s environmental challenges.
