Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, speaking in the state assembly, shared an extraordinary success story from the recently concluded Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj—a boatman and his family earned ₹30 crore in just 45 days. This revelation underscores the massive economic impact of the world’s largest religious gathering, which saw participation from over 66 crore devotees and sadhus.

According to CM Yogi, the boatman owned 130 boats, each generating an average profit of ₹23 lakh during the grand event.

“A boatman’s family, who owned 130 boats, earned a total of ₹30 crore in just 45 days during the Mahakumbh. This means each boat earned ₹23 lakh over the 45 days, which translates to about ₹50,000-52,000 per day,” said the Chief Minister during the budget discussion for 2025-26 in the legislative assembly.

The Maha Kumbh 2025, attended by people from over 100 countries, showcased Uttar Pradesh’s cultural heritage and economic potential on a global stage, highlighting the fusion of tradition and modern progress.

Maha Kumbh: A ₹3.5 Lakh Crore Economic Boost

CM Yogi dismissed opposition allegations of discrimination at the Kumbh, stating that the event was inclusive and a reflection of India’s spiritual legacy. He asserted that despite attempts to spread misinformation, faith in the event remained unshaken.

The Chief Minister further elaborated on the Maha Kumbh’s staggering economic impact, estimating that the event contributed ₹3.5 lakh crore to Uttar Pradesh’s economy through various revenue streams:

  • ₹40,000 crore from the hotel industry
  • ₹33,000 crore from food and daily essentials
  • ₹1.5 lakh crore from transportation
  • ₹20,000 crore from religious offerings
  • ₹660 crore from donations
  • ₹300 crore from toll tax
  • ₹66,000 crore from other economic activities

CM Yogi emphasized that Maha Kumbh is not just a religious gathering but a massive economic driver, boosting tourism, local businesses, and infrastructure development in Uttar Pradesh.

A Global Spectacle of Faith and Economy

Yogi Adityanath reiterated that the Maha Kumbh transcended barriers of caste, region, and religion, welcoming people from across the world. He took a jibe at the opposition, stating:

“For the opposition, the devotees visiting the Maha Kumbh were a vote bank, whereas for us, they represented our heritage and faith. That’s why people trust our government.”

The success of the Maha Kumbh 2025 not only reaffirmed the cultural and spiritual strength of Bharat but also demonstrated how religious tourism can be a significant economic catalyst, benefiting lakhs of people across various sectors.
