Hyderabad, 13th Nov. Former BRS MLA Patnam Narender Reddy was detained on Wednesday in connection with the attack on district authorities during a public hearing on land acquisition in Telangana’s Vikarabad district. The police confirmed that Reddy is being questioned in relation to the incident.
Sixteen individuals have already been arrested for their alleged involvement in the attack, which occurred on Monday in Lagacharla village. Villagers, protesting the acquisition of their land for proposed pharmaceutical companies, allegedly attacked officials, including Vikarabad District Collector Prateek Jain. The protesters reportedly threw stones at the collector’s vehicle and other officials’ cars.
Three officials—an Additional Collector, the Kodangal Area Development Authority (KADA) chairman, and a DSP rank police officer—were injured during the chaos. The altercation took place during a public hearing on the land acquisition by the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC).
Authorities suspect that a BRS youth wing leader, who allegedly incited the “pre-planned” attack, is currently on the run. In response to the violence, three FIRs have been filed, and internet services have been suspended in the Dudyala mandal.
Patnam Narender Reddy, who had contested the Kodangal Assembly seat against Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, is facing questioning in connection with the unrest.
