Lucknow, 15th Nov. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday paid tribute to tribal icon Birsa Munda on his birth anniversary, honoring his contributions to India’s freedom struggle and tribal identity. Adityanath expressed respect for Munda’s legacy, highlighting his role as a “great revolutionary” who fought to protect the land and tribal culture.
In a post on X, Adityanath described Munda as an “immortal hero” who inspired resistance against British rule and emphasized the importance of preserving natural resources. “Tributes to the immortal hero of the freedom struggle, promoter of forest culture and tribal identity, the great revolutionary ‘Dharti Aba’ Bhagwan Birsa Munda,” Adityanath wrote, praising Munda’s teachings on land and environmental conservation.
The chief minister also extended his greetings to the people of Jharkhand on their state foundation day, calling Jharkhand “the sacred land of brave martyrs and the incomparable land of spiritual and historical heritage.” Jharkhand was officially established on November 15, 2000, the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, as a testament to the state’s deep connection to the tribal leader’s legacy.
Munda, born in 1875 in present-day Jharkhand, challenged British colonial rule and mobilized local tribes to stand against exploitation. His life, though brief—he died in British custody at age 25—left an enduring impact on the movement for tribal rights and justice in India.
