New Delhi, 7th Dec. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a surge in cold conditions across North India, along with rain and fog, as a new Western Disturbance becomes active starting December 8, 2024. The weather system is expected to impact the western Himalayan region and northern plains, including Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Haryana.
Delhi-NCR, which has so far experienced mild winter, is likely to face significant cold in the coming days. Light rain is forecasted for December 8, which could push the minimum temperature down to 7-9 degrees Celsius. Post-rain, chilly winds are expected to intensify the cold.
In Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, dense fog is anticipated between December 7 and 9, potentially affecting morning visibility. Light rain accompanied by cold winds may cause further temperature drops. The hilly regions of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are likely to witness light to moderate snowfall and rain, leading to a sharp decline in temperatures.
Eastern India is expected to see a drop in minimum temperatures over the next two days, while Central India will likely maintain stable temperatures.
The IMD has advised caution for drivers and farmers due to the impact of rain and fog on visibility and daily activities. With the cold wave set to intensify, residents are encouraged to use warm clothing and adopt necessary precautions to stay safe.
