Mumbai, 15th Feb. Actor Raghu Ram appeared before the Maharashtra Cyber Department as part of the ongoing probe into podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial remarks on comedian Samay Raina’s now-deleted YouTube show, India’s Got Latent.
Allahbadia, widely known as BeerBiceps, sparked outrage over a remark about parents and sex, leading to severe backlash. Following public outcry, he issued an apology, calling it a lapse in judgment.
Sources revealed that Raghu Ram, who was on the show’s judging panel, told investigators on Thursday that Raina should have edited out abusive language. He also expressed regret over his own use of profanity, stating he had “gone with the flow” without intending to offend.
50 Summoned, Multiple Interrogations Underway
Authorities have summoned at least 50 people for questioning, with Mumbai Police already having recorded statements from eight, including YouTuber Apoorva Makhija (The Rebel Kid), Ashish Chanchlani, Allahbadia’s manager, and the video editor of the show.
Despite being summoned, Raina has sought more time to appear, citing his presence in the US. Meanwhile, teams from Mumbai and Assam police visited Allahbadia’s Mumbai residence on Friday but found it locked.
Allahbadia, who was asked to report at Mumbai’s Khar police station, requested to give his statement at home, a request that was denied. After failing to appear, a second summons was issued, prompting officers to visit his residence.
The Assam Police is also probing the case based on a complaint alleging that Allahbadia promoted obscene content on an easily accessible online platform. Others named in the Assam case include Samay Raina, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija.
Investigations by both Mumbai and Maharashtra’s Cyber Department are ongoing.
