New Delhi, 19th Nov. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai announced on Tuesday that the government is considering work-from-home measures and the odd-even vehicle scheme to combat the city’s alarming air quality levels.
“The situation is a medical emergency. People, including children and senior citizens, are struggling to breathe, and we deeply regret this,” Rai said, acknowledging the dire state of Delhi’s air pollution, which has been in the “severe plus” category since Sunday with AQI consistently above 450.
Rai said that under Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP-IV), significant restrictions on vehicles have already been enforced.
“We are analyzing the impact of these measures. If the analysis is positive, further steps, including work-from-home, will be decided soon,” he added.
The minister urged collective action, stating, “This crisis requires everyone’s participation to protect public health.”
