Ranchi, 9th Jan. Dense fog disrupted flight operations at Birsa Munda Airport on Thursday, with no arrivals or departures recorded until 10:30 AM, officials said. Poor visibility also led to the diversion of four flights, causing inconvenience to passengers.
“Since morning, no arrival or departure of flights has taken place at Ranchi Airport due to poor visibility. All flights are likely to be delayed. Four flights were also diverted,” airport director RR Maurya confirmed.
The Ranchi Meteorological Centre reported visibility as low as 300 meters between 8 AM and 9 AM, far below the minimum requirement of 1,200 meters for flight landings.
Adding to the weather woes, Jharkhand is experiencing a cold wave, with Lohardaga recording the state’s lowest temperature at 3.2°C. Chatra registered 3.6°C, while Hazaribagh reported 3.7°C. Ranchi recorded 7°C, with its outskirts, Namkum and Kanke, reporting 3.7°C and 4.2°C, respectively.
Abhishek Anand, in charge of the Ranchi Meteorological Centre, noted that temperatures might rise after Friday due to a western disturbance affecting northwest India. “The mercury may rise by two to three degrees Celsius from February 11, and minimum temperatures may again exceed 10°C in the state,” he added.
Passengers are advised to check flight schedules for updates as delays are expected to continue.
