Jammu, 28th Jan. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and the Jammu & Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the region’s startup ecosystem. The MoU was formalized during the “Jammu Kashmir Konnect” program at JKEDI’s Baribrahamna campus.
The agreement aims to foster collaboration, mentorship, and support for startups in Jammu & Kashmir. It also enhances outreach, market linkages, and infrastructure support under the Startup India framework, aligning with India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Empowering Startups
The event brought together startups, incubators, and key stakeholders to discuss innovation and growth opportunities. DPIIT and JKEDI representatives held interactive sessions with incubators to address challenges, identify needs, and plan future support for the startup ecosystem.
JKEDI Director Rajinder Kumar Sharma, JKAS, highlighted the transformative impact of the JK Startup Policy introduced in March 2024. Over 250 new startups have registered on the DPIIT portal, bringing the total to 988. He also commended JKEDI’s outreach efforts, which included conducting 601 Entrepreneurship Awareness Programs (EAPs) across universities, colleges, and schools in J&K this year at zero expense.
Expanding Horizons
The MoU emphasizes mentorship, knowledge exchange, funding networks, and international expansion opportunities for startups. It paves the way for enhanced accessibility to Startup India’s resources, ensuring comprehensive support for aspiring entrepreneurs in the region.
The event was attended by representatives from IIT-Jammu, IIM-Jammu, Jammu University, SKUAST-Jammu, and Cluster University, with virtual participation from NIT-Srinagar, IUST, SKUAST-Kashmir, and CIIIT Baramulla.
Key Outcomes
The “Jammu Kashmir Konnect” program and the MoU signing mark a milestone in J&K’s entrepreneurial landscape, offering a robust platform for innovation and sustainable growth.
