Mumbai, 10th Feb.
Amid growing outrage over YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia’s remarks on a roast show, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has warned that anyone crossing the limits of decency will face action. The Chief Minister stated that while he had not watched the viral clip, he was informed that it was “very vulgar” and unacceptable.

“Everyone has freedom of speech, but this freedom ends when we encroach upon others’ rights. If anyone crosses the limits, action will be taken,” Fadnavis said.

The controversy erupted after a clip from the show India’s Got Latent went viral, featuring Allahbadia—popularly known as BeerBiceps—posing an inappropriate question to a contestant. Two Mumbai lawyers, Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra, have filed a police complaint against Allahbadia and other comedians, including Samay Raina and Apoorva Makhija, alleging that their remarks were vulgar and disrespectful towards women.

The complaint, submitted to Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phalsankar and the Maharashtra State Women’s Commission, demands an FIR against the show’s creators and its shutdown. The lawyers argue that the show promotes indecency for financial gain and negatively influences young minds.

The incident has sparked widespread backlash on social media. Journalist and lyricist Neelesh Misra criticized the platform’s creators for lacking responsibility. “Decency is not incentivized in India—platforms and audiences are rewarding crass content,” Misra posted on X.

Congress leader Supriya Shrinate also condemned the show, calling the remarks “perverse, not creative.” She expressed concern that such comments were being normalized under the guise of comedy.

With pressure mounting, authorities may soon take action against the show’s organizers.
