Shimla, 27th Dec. Himachal Pradesh has announced a two-day closure of all government facilities, including departments, boards, corporations, and educational institutions, on December 27 and 28 to honor the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, officials confirmed.
The state government stated these days will be treated as paid holidays for all daily wage employees under its jurisdiction.
In a related move, the Municipal Corporation of Shimla has decided to partially postpone the Winter Carnival scheduled from December 27 to January 1. According to an official notification, cultural activities during the carnival will be deferred, with other scheduled programs to be conducted by January 2. However, stalls set up on the Ridge will remain operational as planned.
Manmohan Singh, a visionary economist and the architect of India’s 1991 economic reforms, passed away on Thursday night at Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at the age of 92. Singh, who served as Prime Minister for a decade from 2004 to 2014, played a pivotal role in shaping India’s economic framework during his tenure as Finance Minister in the early 1990s.
