India Faces Growing Cybersecurity Talent Shortage as Demand Surges Across Sectors

Published:

India is witnessing an escalating demand for cybersecurity professionals, with the talent gap widening sharply across industries, according to a report by The Economic Times. Data from Teamlease Digital indicates there are currently 25,000–30,000 active openings for cybersecurity roles across IT firms, Global Capability Centers (GCCs), and large enterprises — marking a 30% increase from 2023 and more than double since 2021.

Despite the surge in demand, the country faces an acute shortage of skilled cybersecurity experts. The overall supply-demand gap ranges between 30–50%, while for specialized mid- to senior-level positions — including cloud security, zero trust frameworks, and AI-driven security systems — the gap has reached an alarming 45–60%.

Experts attribute this mismatch to the rapid digital transformation across sectors such as banking, healthcare, and e-commerce, coupled with a rise in cyber threats and regulatory compliance requirements. Companies are now increasingly investing in training programs, upskilling initiatives, and partnerships with academic institutions to bridge the growing gap in cybersecurity capabilities.
