Maharashtra to Provide Free Cancer Vaccines for Girls, Steps Up Bird Flu Precautions

Published:

Mumbai- Maharashtra Health Minister Prakash Abitkar on Saturday announced a state-wide initiative to provide free cancer vaccines to girls aged 0-14, amid rising concerns over increasing cancer cases.

“With lifestyle changes, cancer cases are rising across all age groups, including children. To address this, we have requested Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar to implement a free cancer vaccination program, which he has approved,” Abitkar said.

In a separate development, the state is on alert after bird flu was detected in crows in Vidarbha. The health minister clarified that there is no confirmed human infection, but preventive measures, including the temporary closure of chicken shops, have been implemented.

Meanwhile, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar advised people to avoid undercooked chicken amid the ongoing Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) outbreak in Pune, dismissing unverified links between the disease and poultry consumption.
