Prayagraj, 9th Feb. A minor fire broke out in a kalpvasi tent in Sector 19 of the Maha Kumbh on February 9, reportedly due to a gas cylinder leak, officials confirmed. The blaze, which was quickly extinguished by firefighters within 10 minutes, completely gutted the tent, but no casualties were reported.
According to Chief Fire Officer (Kumbh) Pramod Sharma, the affected tent was set up by Om Prakash Pandey Seva Sansthan and belonged to Rajendra Jaiswal, a resident of Karma, Prayagraj.
Recent Fire Incidents at Maha Kumbh
The Maha Kumbh Mela, which began on January 13 and will continue until February 26, has witnessed multiple fire incidents since its commencement.
- February 7 – A fire broke out in the ISKCON camp in Sector 18, spreading to a dozen nearby camps. While no injuries were reported, around 20 tents were destroyed.
- January 19 – A massive fire occurred in Sector 19 due to a cylinder blast, gutting over a dozen camps.
- January 25 – A short circuit caused two cars to catch fire in Sector 2, but no casualties were reported.
Authorities Remain on High Alert
With the Maha Kumbh witnessing millions of devotees, authorities have stepped up fire safety measures to prevent further incidents. Officials are conducting inspections of gas cylinders, electrical wiring, and fire safety equipment across the event area.
Despite the recent incidents, the Maha Kumbh continues smoothly, with lakhs of devotees arriving daily for the spiritual gathering, which remains one of the largest religious congregations in the world.
