Purnea, 4th Dec. Bihar Police have arrested Ram Babu Yadav, a former associate of Lok Sabha MP Rajesh Ranjan, alias Pappu Yadav, for allegedly threatening the parliamentarian. The police claim that Yadav posed as a henchman of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in an attempt to demand enhanced security for the MP.
According to authorities, Ram Babu Yadav made a video call to Pappu Yadav, threatening him and demanding an apology to Lawrence Bishnoi for a post in which the MP had vowed to “finish off” the gangster’s network. Yadav was arrested from his hometown in Bhojpur district on Tuesday.
Purnea Superintendent of Police, Kartikeya K. Sharma, confirmed that the accused was once associated with the Jan Adhikar Party (JAP), which was later merged with the Congress before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Yadav had contested and won the Purnea seat as an Independent candidate.
Sharma revealed that initial investigations showed no gang affiliations for Yadav. The accused confessed that he had sent the threatening messages under instructions from individuals linked to Pappu Yadav, in exchange for a payment. Yadav claimed he received Rs 2,000 for the video and was promised Rs 2 lakh and a political post after sending another threatening video, which had already been recorded.
The police are continuing to investigate the case to understand the motive behind the threats. Sharma added that the claims made by the accused have not been corroborated with evidence so far.
The incident follows multiple death threats received by Pappu Yadav, especially after he announced plans to eliminate the Bishnoi gang in retaliation for the killing of former lawmaker Baba Siddique in Mumbai.
